Mission:
The Maurice Falk Medical Fund recognizes and celebrates
human diversity manifested in race, culture, gender, age, sexual orientation,
religion, ethnicity, and nationality, among other attributes. The Fund
focuses on understanding, preventing, and alleviating the consequences
of personal and institutional injustices, disparities, or inequities
resulting from prejudice, intolerance, or ignorance.
Eligible
Activities
The Maurice Falk Medical
Fund supports proposals for:
- examining the root causes
of injustice through academic research
- educating the public and
policymakers about equity issues
- designing approaches for
the prevention of injustice
- implementing practices
that promote equal access and opportunity
The Fund's areas of interest
include healthcare, education, workforce development, mental health, housing,
and criminal justice. Long term priorities include training of professionals
and publication of research and field trial results. Unfortunately the
Fund does not support individuals, capital campaigns, or operating budgets.
Guidelines
The Maurice Falk Medical Fund has a small endowment and is limited in
ability to award large or numerous grants. We seek to support innovative,
creative or imaginative projects that address injustice and may have a
high degree of risk. Typical awards range from $2-$50,000 per year.
Process
For consideration, please submit an initial 1-2 page letter of inquiry
describing the purpose of the project and the amount requested. Within
3 weeks of submission, we will respond either with a declination, a request
for a site visit, or an invitation to submit a full proposal. We accept
letters of inquiry at any time throughout the year. Major grants are awarded
twice per year, at Board meetings held once in the spring and once in
the fall. Innovation and Development grants (totaling less than $2,500)
can be awarded at any point during the year. |
